| Paraty is located in one of the biggest bays of the country,Ilha Grande, with 1125Km2. It is divided into two parts – Paraty Bay and Angra dos Reis. The Paraty coast is well cut .With an extension of 180 Km, it has several inlets, peninsulas and islands, impeding the sea streams circulation. The medium amplitude of tides is 2 meters. |

| In the sites where the mountain and sea are joined, there is close to the water line, a band of pebbles - stones that rolled down from the mountains – with rounded forms due to action of waves. The heaping up of these stones form burrows where live and hide fishes, crustaceans and mollusks. |

| In the south part of “paratiense” comprised between Trindade and the historical center, the mountains of Serra Mar finish directly in the ocean. In this part, the sea ground is formed, in its great part, by sand and, the vegetation is the Mata Atlântica Forest. |
