| In very strong tides , almost all historical center is flooded and it is normal find “caiçaras” with their canoes rowing through the streets. IN normal tides, the streets always invaded by the sea are Dr. Pereira and Santa Rita. By this reason, do not park the car in these places, in special in Dr. Pereira street nearby fish market. The height that the tide reached the city is registered in horizontal marks in the houses’ wall of the mentioned streets. |

| It is surrounded by two rivers and by the sea, a big danger for the city is when occur storms making the river overflows, with very high tides, brought by “sizigia” tides and by winds coming from the sea to the land. |

| In “sizigia” tides occur the biggest tide amplitudes, due to star position and its gravitational power. On these days when the tide goes down at minimum, the sea ground is visible in some places, specially in the proximities of the pier and in Pontal and Jabaquara beaches. |

| By the other hand, when the tide goes up, the waters invade the city. The streets were projected to allow the entrance and exit of the sea water, so it becomes a natural way to clean it. This phenomenon occurs mainly in the first days of full moon and new moon. |
